When we started to think about building a cabin, we realized that to save our sanity and have fun in the process we needed a framework to guide our decision making process. What we came up with were the 7L's
- Local
- Light / Low-Impact
- Liveable/Loveable
- Low-cost
- Long Lasting
- Logical
- Lots o 'uses
Of course sometimes when I look at our two story windowed cabin sitting on the edge of a cliff I do think, logical? really? But when the site with the best view and fewest number of trees needing to be cut down is on the edge of a cliff isn't it logical to use that site? Especially when your neighbour gives you amazing logs to use as your posts. And when you find enormous used windows for cheap, isn't it logical to build your cabin around them? We thought so.
